Rory Stern, PsyD
From very early on in his life, Dr. Stern knew he was different. He finished his homework early, he rarely ever studied, did better under pressure, got mostly A & B’s, and almost never got in trouble. He might have been a little impulsive and hyperactive, but they called him careless and passionate. And this is exactly how you would hear it today if you asked anyone from his childhood, teachers… parents… peers…
But that doesn’t tell the whole story, and that’s not how most stories go. Dr. Stern was identified as gifted and talented in Kindergarten, and he was given every opportunity to develop his creativity and passion. Where most people were focusing on the negatives, Dr. Stern heard almost nothing but positives about what he was capable of achieving.
He attributes his success to three fundamental principles that his parents provided for him — no questions asked.
Despite doing well in school, Dr. Stern wasn’t immune to the affects of being different…of standing out from the crowd. What looked like success on the outside, was a very different experience on the inside. Only a few people knew the truth, and everyone else seemed content enough not to ask.
It was these experiences that drove Dr. Stern to become a child and family advocate. Being misunderstood his whole life, he wants to ensure that no more children are misunderstood, misguided, misdirected, or misdiagnosed.
Dr. Stern holds a doctorate in clinical psychology from the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology, along with a Graduate Certificate in Exeuctive Coaching. He currently serves on the National Board of Directors for the Attention Deficit Disorder Association, and is in private practice (as a child ADHD Coach) in North Andover, MA.
